Assessment
With an American curriculum examination may be different from other exams students from other
curriculum schools. The purpose of examinations is to assess students’ understanding of the material,
provide feedback to both students and educators. The continuous process of assessments is a way to
motivate and engage students to develop regular habits to attend classes, complete assignments, and to
receive feedback. Students’ depth of knowledge is tested based on the US and Ministry standards. At
TAPS this important stage of the teaching and learning process is also called ‘Developmental Marking.’
Students, each term, receive a mark based on assessment categories for a total mark.
Apart from internal school exams, students sit for external examinations as well which include:
MAP exams (once per term)
EMSAT (grade 12 once a year)
CAT 4 (once a year)
TALA Arabic (twice a year)
PIRLS (on occasion)
TIMSS ( on occasion)
